ABOUT
BEN WESTLAKE
Ben Westlake is a Los Angeles based graphic designer. Originally from Wisconsin, Ben grew up around the classic and timeless sports brands of the Green Bay Packers, Chicago Blackhawks, and Wisconsin Badgers influencing his understanding of aesthetics. From a young age, he started to notice the systems of branding that surrounded his favorite sports teams. He got his start in design by creating hockey and football uniform concepts on Photoshop CS5.
This quickly evolved to attempting "dope editz" as sports-centered graphic design entered infancy. He learned a ton and through a couple connections, landed his first few remote internships in college football with Army West Point and Portland State Football making recruiting content. Through more networking, he eventually landed with the Harvard Crimson.
Ben parlayed all of this into his first full time job out of high school with the AHL's Ontario Reign, where he took the big leap from the midwest to Southern California. There, he worked and learned with an award-winning marketing team where they'd redefine the visual identity of the franchise over the course of 2 and a half seasons.
Now working for the non-profit PragerU, Ben's mission is about creating content centered around his pro-American & Christian values. He focuses primarily on fundraising campaigns, email courses, paid ad creation, and the occasional Kids novel. He also started using more Illustrator, "like an adult."
There, he's met his now wife, Amanda, and their boss, Alex, who he is working on the newsletter DesignRight with.
He still freelances on the side, having worked with clients like the LA Kings and Columbus Crew.
Outside of design, Ben still enjoys watching sports, studying theology, beach trips, and making his wife deal with his Warped Tour-esque playlists.
